I'm a big Howard Stern fan, but there's no way he becomes a part of this show. He has spent years making fun of it, encouraging his listeners to vote for "joke" contestants like Sanjaya, and is now dismissing it as a "f***ing karaoke contest" and admitting he's just in it for the money. He would distract from the show's purpose, would probably spend 3/4 of the time insulting Ryan Seacrest, and would appeal to a much different fan base than the one that has made the show profitable. Lots of parents could ...... more

No, it wasn't perfect, but I like that, unlike some previous years' singers, she sang it live (not lip-synched) and couldn't hide behind a heavy musical accompaniment. Just a good, old-fashioned, real performance.... more

LOL at a song having a "flute riff." I wondered why they took so long to file this lawsuit, but then I read that they want 60% of the profits earned by the song since its release. Patience is a virtue...and a profitable one, at that.... more

Yeah, I had a volume problem in my ear, too - the problem was that my TV's volume was on when Taylor Swift was singing. Who is this guy trying to fool? Critics aren't the only ones bashing her - just look at the comments on this article, written by regular music fans. Taylor needs to stop attending (and performing on) every single awards show, stop with the fake reactions to her victories, and stop thinking that she can get unlimited mileage out of her limited talent. The money might be nice right now, b...... more

That's a huge cast of characters!! Seems like way more than were a part of the original. Should be a good record...but why was Vince Vaughn there? Was he the token "totally random actor who doesn't sing but is here anyway" selection, fulfilling the role Dan Ackroyd played in the original?... more

OK, so she didn't win EVERY award she was nominated for, but my other two predictions below were right on. Taylor Swift is 2010's answer to Hansen. Just go away.... more

Why were their cousins there? Was this another ploy to get Jermajesty and company some face time, like when Jermaine trotted them out and introduced them to the crowd at the AMAs? Even in death, Michael's brothers are still dragging on his coattails. Prince and Paris did well, though.... more

I love it...just finished reading all the comments on this article, and am glad to see the Taylor backlash is in full swing. She has been waaaay overexposed, appearing and performing on every awards show possible. The whole "I'm so innocent, I can't believe little ol' me could win one of these awards" attitude has gotten old. I'm so tired of seeing her act all shocked every time she wins something. You've been a huge success for more than a year, Taylor, so drop the act. Your songs aren't country, your v...... more

Thank God for Katy Perry. I agree with TabbyBaby - Kara really thinks she's cool and hip, and that the show should be about her. She always tries to look like she's got soul when anyone sings an R&B-type song, like she's "feelin' it." Please. Katy was hilarious, and I was so happy to see someone make Kara look like the tool that she is.... more

Grammy spoiler: Taylor Swift wins every award for which she's nominated, looks shocked as her name is read, then goes onstage and gives a speech about how humbled and honored she is. I respect her talent, but I'm tired of her schtick.... more

Just what Linda McMahon needs as she runs for a Senate seat: two of her athletes acting like buffoons. Why is Helms assaulting a woman? And how did four people squeeze into a taxi? BTW, James, the third paragraph of this story is the exact same as the start of the second paragraph. It should be deleted.... more

I have to agree with AOTY!!! James Montgomery is a talented journalist who has written some really good pieces on this site, but he's obviously a huge blink-182 fan, and writes a lot of stories based on speculation, wishful thinking and comments he sees on twitter. James, keep up the good writing, but stop with the constant stories about blink. Reunion? Big story. Summer 2009 tour? Big story. Mark or Tom saying they want to do something ambitious? Obvious. Let us know when something newsworthy happens.... more

I'm pretty sure that when Jay Leno took over for Johnny Carson, the "Tonight Show"'s ratings tanked for a while too. Takes people a while to get used to change. Conan is brilliant - hope NBC doesn't pull the plug too soon, especially if it involves bringing Leno back for a mere 30 minutes a night.... more

I usually agree with posts by concertconfessions, but have to disagree this time. I saw Chris Cornell play solo shows in 2007 and 2008, and was amazed at how good his voice sounded. It's absolutely not what it was 15 years ago, but it definitely was not an insult to the Soundgarden material he performed. In fact, even on stuff like "Jesus Christ Pose," his voice sounded better in 2008 than it did when I saw him with Audioslave in 2003. I always kind of liked the idea of at least one '90s band refusing to...... more

Idol won't survive without Simon - not that it will die out entirely, but it will no longer be the juggernaut that it is today. This is interesting news, though, considering I don't really know what makes Idol different from X Factor. Is it pretty much the same show?... more

Glad to see that he's getting the help he needs. It's really unfortunate to see how this all has played out - as someone with an addictive personality who puts himself in a position to need pain medication, it's almost inevitable he would have ended up here. I'm lucky to have seen Aerosmith in concert, and really admire Steven's commitment to perform at the highest level possible. Look forward to seeing the band again when Steven is ready.... more

No disrespect to her fans, but for God's sake, can we please have just one awards show without Taylor Swift? Her management has done a good job by getting her a slot on every show for the past few years, but I'm waiting for that to backfire, and for everyone to get tired of her. Also, when she inevitably wins every award she's nominated for at the Grammys, I hope she'll lay off the whole "I'm so shocked" vibe that accompanies her every victory. Being humble is fine, but stop trying to act like you didn't...... more

The fact that the would-be director's says, "I guess we'll just try not to show any Blink songs in it," shows he isn't serious. This would be the equivalent of "Ray" not including any Ray Charles songs, or "Ali" not having any Muhammad Ali fights, or "Seabiscuit" not showing any horseraces. You can't tell their story without the music - otherwise, you'd might as well just make a movie loosely based on blink but not using their actual name. Glad the guy's a fan and everything, but seriously, this is a was...... more

Why does Taylor Swift act like she's shocked every time she wins something? She wins pretty much everything, so it shouldn't be a surprise anymore. Enough with the false humility. If she's smart, she'll go away for a few months, just to give us a break. Otherwise, even her fans will get tired of her sooner than later.... more

If you didn't like the performance, don't put all of the blame on Adam - I'm sure the producers of the AMA were all too happy to have him do something "controversial" that people would be talking about the next day. Going into one commercial break, the announcer told us to stay tuned for Adam's "outrageous" performance. I live in California and didn't see the oral-sex thing, but otherwise I wasn't horrified by anything other than the song not being that good.... more

I don't know the details of the suppose breakup, but Aerosmith isn't Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. This is like Eddie Vedder going solo, and the rest of the guys getting a new singer and still calling themselves Pearl Jam. Good luck with the new singer, Joe - look forward to seeing "Aerosmith" on the county-fair circuit next summer.... more

Bud and Eric should be able to continue performing under the name. Brad may have written the band's songs, but just because he accidentally took his own life shouldn't take away the other guys' livelihood as well. Personally I think it cheapens the legacy of the band to forge ahead with a new singer (see Alice in Chains), but as long as they're cutting in Brad's family on any money they make, fans who want to hear the music should be able to.... more

I won't go as far as to tell anyone that their opinion about the song is "wrong," but overall I agree with Simon. I saw my first two Foo Fighters shows in July 1995, and the band that played that summer is nothing like the band that recorded "Wheels." I think the turn toward softer rock came when Taylor Hawkins joined the band. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but considering he was previously Alanis Morrissette's drummer, it makes sense. The first single on the first album he played on was "Learn to Fly,"...... more

The AMAs should honor MJ by giving him a special award, not putting him up against other artists. He's being nominated for "Number Ones"...an album that was released in 2003. Why not just nominate him for "Thriller"? No way MJ loses in any of these categories, and if he does, the winner will just give up the award to MJ anyway. I hope the producers of this show aren't the same people behind the Oscars; otherwise, Patrick Swayze will win the Best Actor award for "Dirty Dancing." This whole thing is lame.... more

How nice of Chynna to show up on Oprah...and plug her new CD in front of millions of viewers. Just like her sister, Chynna has something to sell. And what a coincidence - they happened to have a picture of the new album's cover. Nice premeditated sales tactic. The book club was bad enough; now, apparently Oprah is endorsing music as well. All three of these women claim the discussion was aimed at helping incest victims find a voice, but really all three of them are trying to gain financially from this.... more
