Great writeup, James. Kind of sad how it reads like an obituary, though it makes sense since it pretty much is one. Glad I got to see them, and also glad they're calling it quits instead of tarnishing their legacy with poor record sales and sparsely attended shows. Thanks for the good music!... more

What a shock, another Mike Myers sequel. Wayne's World, Shrek, Austin Powers...how about you stop milking these franchises and do something new and different. Wasn't Goldmember bad enough, or do you have to further desecrate what was initially a pretty cool gig?... more

So they're both close to the same key, and both have strings, but otherwise I totally don't hear the Bjork comparison at all. If anything, this song sounds kind of like "My Immortal" from the first album. It's a nice song, but I hope they're going to ditch the echo on the vocals. Amy's voice is amazing and doesn't need all the tricks.... more

Well, I definitely agree they're drawing from the past decade or so - opening riff sounds like Boxcar Racer, verse sounds like something from "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket," chorus sounds like Angels & Airwaves. I could do without Tom's uber-dramatic vocals (which is one reason why I had a hard time enjoying Angels & Airwaves), but otherwise this is actually a really good song. Lots of different parts, super-cool drums, the signature blink harmonies. If the rest of the album sounds like this, I will be fi...... more

Hmmm...not sure if I like it. Sounded heavy, but without the darkness of their previous material. BTW, James, did you ask her about her thoughts on her old bandmates starting an Evanescence soundalike band with Carly Smithson from American Idol? I'd love to know what she said.... more

Wow, yet another article by James Montgomery, ABOUT James Montgomery. Just like your giddy-schoolgirl "story" about when you met the band last month, let's call this article what it is: an excuse to tell everyone about the famous people you've met. Here's a little Journalism 101 for you: remember that you are a reporter first, and fan second. Report the news. The end. Or, as an actual journalist would say, -30-.... more

Can't wait for the next Foo Fighters tour. I've enjoyed the MTV News coverage this week, since album releases don't really feel as important as they used to anymore. That said, this article looks like it was written by a third grader. I usally like your stuff, James, but the main purpose this article seems to be making sure that we all know Dave Grohl spoke to you personally. Big deal, I've met him too, and so have tons of other people. Stick with news, please - you guys actually do it pretty well.... more

I actually just thought about this today, since I saw that the new Angels & Airwaves album has been delayed. This, plus Travis' tour, was making me wonder about whether this record will come out this year. I have complete faith in their ability to write great music, but if they're just working on it in pieces (and in separate studios to boot), I wonder how cohesive the record is going to sound. No matter what, I will buy it on the day it comes out.... more

I was going to say the same thing as Wookie - the Epicenter Festival was not in Eminem's hometown. You guys lose credibility when you make obvious mistakes like this. As for the rest of the article, sounds like a solid group of headliners.... more

I saw this covered on several local TV newscasts...by news anchors I have seen stumble over their lines a hundred times. Talk about hypocrisy. Christina did great, she's gorgeous and got the game off to a good start. I found her mistake far less offensive to the national anthem than the idiots I see at every game who wear hats, talk and text while the anthem is being sung.... more

Michael Rapaport seems like a good dude. The film will do nothing but positive things for the group's legacy, so it's too bad most of them decided not to attend. I saw A Tribe Called Quest at Lollapalooza 1994, and am looking forward to seeing the movie whenever I get the chance.... more

Foo Fighters + Butch Vig = amazing. I have seen the Foos a ton of times since 1995 (with every personnel lineup they've ever had), but haven't been a huge fan of the past few records. Truthfully, as talented as he may be, having Taylor Hawkins take over drumming duties really kind of killed the band's edge. But based on Butch Vig's involvement, and the 10-second clip I just heard, I'm excited about the potential of the new record.... more

I wish LeAnn and Eddie the best in their future together. I don't think anyone approves of infidelity, especially when young children are involved, but if you weren't directly involved in the situation, you shouldn't judge. Maybe they didn't handle things in the perfect manner, but it isn't fair to say that automatically means they deserve a lifetime of misery. My opinion is that both LeAnn and Eddie have done their best in a really nasty, messy situation, and hope that they stay together forever. It wou...... more

Ask anyone who is still displaced by Hurricane Katrina, or who lost loved ones in that disaster, or the survivors of the concurrent wars he launched after 9/11, or those who lost their right to privacy through the Patriot Act - I'm sure they'll agree that the most disgusting moment of W's presidency was the time a rapper called him a name. Hard to believe that, even after two years of reflection, this guy still just doesn't get it.... more

Thanks for the review - I was at this show and it was fun to relive. Just a couple of quick corrections, though. 1) KISS are not "Motor City mavens" - they are from New York and now live in L.A. They have a song called "Detroit Rock City," but that's it. 2) Gavin Rossdale played "Glycerine" on an electric guitar, not acoustic. 3) KISS' set did not include "God of Thunder." Otherwise, pretty good review of a fun night of music.... more

I love Kid Rock's attitude. As a veteran myself, it bothers me that Toby Keith has basically appointed himself the voice of the troops, and while he's a great performer in his own right (I've paid to see him twice), he definitely rides the coattails of the soldiers' sacrifices. Kid Rock, on the other hand, isn't making a big deal out of his USO shows. In fact, had MTV not approached him for this story, I doubt we'd even know about them. Gotta respectfully disagree with Dustin (below) - I doubt anyone ser...... more

Love this idea!! Perfect for 2011. which I believe is the 15th anniversary of "Pinkerton." I'd also love to see Matt Sharp rejoin the band for the tour, since I never thought Scott was a good fit, but I'm not holding my breath on that. Either way, if they decide to do it, I'm there.... more

Tonya, I am really sorry for you and your family. I lived in Kansas City a couple of summers ago, and attended Rockfest (in early June). I'm from Southern California and hadn't dealt with that kind of heat and humidity before. So I'm sure it was difficult, especially without water. Not sure about the racist angle. I saw the "Nightline" piece and, while I thought Bashir was a little egocentric in it (rather than putting the spotlight entirely on Diddy), I thought it was fair. Back in 1993, Oprah did an interview with Michael Jackson, and asked him about rumors he'd tried to buy the Elephant Man's bones. No one thought that was a racist question - it was just someone asking a celebrity about what most people perceived as a ridiculous expenditure of money. I think Bashir's question wa...... more
